WSDOT brings four new SR 14 cameras online

VANCOUVER - Motorists can now check out some new points of view on State Route 14 in Vancouver, thanks to four new Washington State Department of Transportation (wsdot) traffic cameras.

Cameras Blanford Drive, Shorewood Drive, Cascade Park Drive and 164th Avenue SE were brought online Friday, Feb. 3.

"In combination with the existing network, these cameras give our pilots and crews almost complete coverage on SR 14 between I-5 and SE 164th Avenue," said Traffic Engineer Chad wsdot Hancock.

The cameras are complemented by two new electronic message boards on SR 14 west to Columbia House Boulevard and 164th Avenue SE.

The new device enables drivers to know before you go and respond to changing conditions. It also helps wsdot and the Washington State Highway Patrol to monitor and respond to incidents more quickly and efficiently.

The signs and cameras were funded through a $ 700,000 federal grant program from the Vancouver area Smart Trek.

Wsdot plan to install five more cameras along SR 14 in the next three years. A new camera will go to intersection of SE 192nd Avenue in east Vancouver, and an expansion project scheduled for construction later this year with four new cameras in Camas and Washougal.

Drivers can access a statewide network of more than 400 cameras on wsdot Website Traffic Camera
