Motorola Xoom rates: $ 600 for Wi-Fi, $ 800 for 3 G

While version 3 G Android Tablet is looking a bit pricey at $ 799, the WiFi version will cost around $ 600, Motorola Chief Executive Sanjay Jha told Reuters.

That would put the Xoom, which has 32 GB of storage, in line with Apple 32 GB iPad with Wi-Fi. Apple tablet still would have the advantage of price over 3 G, which costs $ 729, compared to $ 800 for the Xoom. Apple also sells an iPad 16 GB for $ 499, while Motorola not announced other models Xoom or prices.

I am pleased to see that Motorola has priced itself out of the market, as some observers tech had feared. The price of 3 G is a drag, but I also think that a lot of users, 3 G is a Tablet PC functionality. A lot of new Smartphone works as a Wi-Fi hotspots, including Motorola Droid and droid 2 X on Verizon Wireless, so you still cannot connect a Xoom Wi-Fi mobile broadband without the cost of hardware up-front on the tablet.

Regarding the date of issue, Motorola does not formally announced any. The 3 G Xoom is widely expected to launch in February or March through Verizon Wireless and Motorola Executive in Latin America, said that the WiFi version will follow in April, but it is not clear whether it will be the case in other regions.

A lot riding on the Xoom, that Google is positioning as the bar of the showcase for honeycomb, big-screen version of the Android operating system. Melissa j. Perenson at PCWorld was impressed with the Xoom during his hands-on time earlier this month. Now we just need to send, already the thing.
