These run on the latest quad-and dual-core Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) processor cores and is claimed to be up to two times faster than their predecessors.
Thunderbolt is a technology that Apple developed by Intel, which is called "mountain of light".
Apple has also released a developer preview of Mac OS X Leo Thursday. This includes operating system features of iOS the iPad.
The initial reception for the new MacBook Pro were not so hot as Apple intended.
"I don't see anything that is truly revolutionary except maybe Thunderbolt," Jim McGregor, chief technology strategist at in-stat, told MacNewsWorld. "The latest version of their OS is really the most interesting thing," he added.
"Thunderbolt will handle multiple DisplayPorts, and that is great news for analysts who need to watch a lot of data at the same time," Carl Howe, Director of consumer research everywhere at the Yankee Group, told MacNewsWorld.
Apple did not respond to requests for comment by press time.
There are three new MacBook Pro, with screen sizes of 13, 15 and 17 inches.
Version 13-inch characterizes i7 processor with a speed up to 2.7 GHz or dual-core Intel core i5. It also has an Intel HD Graphics 3000.
The 15 and 17-inch models have quad core Intel core i7 rated up to 2.3 GHz. Apple to spread the love with graphics processors, using the AMD (NYSE: AMD) Radeon HD graphics processors with up to 1 GB of video memory in these great MacBook Pro.
"Multiple cores are good for battery life," said Howe.
All three models of the new MacBook Pro includes a built-in HD camera FaceTime with triple the resolution of the previous generation of camera, Apple said. This HD video calls between all new MacBook Pro models. Supports standard definition video calls to other Intel-based Macs, the iPhone 4, and the current generation iPod touch.
However, Apple does not declare if referred to the GSM version of the iPhone 4, offered by AT&T (NYSE: T); the CDMA version, that is by Verizon Wireless; or both.
All three MacBook Pro unibody enclosures will be aluminum, multitouch glass trackpads, widescreen display with LED backlight, illuminated full-size keyboards and drums that offers 7 hours of life between charges, depending on how you use portable computers.
Prices for 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at US $ 1, 200. The 15-inch MacBook Pro will start at $ 1800 and 17-inch version for $ 2200.
Optional add-ons include quad-faster processors, the capacity of the hard drive, solid state storage up to 512 GB, up to 8 GB of DDR3 memory, and ' display high resolution anti-glare, Apple said.
The new MacBook Pro also includes the Thunderbolt technology and/or developed by Apple and Intel.
This features two bidirectional channels, with transfer rates of up to 10 Gbps (gigabits per second) each.
Thunderbolt uses two protocols--PCI Express for data transfer and DisplayPort for Show. Is compatible with existing DisplayPort adapters and Displays, Intel said. All devices of Thunderbolt technology share a common connector and let users chain up to six devices with electrical or optical cables.
Thunderbolt offers PCI Express directly to external peripherals such as high-performance RAID array. Consumer devices can support FireWire and USB, and Ethernet gigabit speed networks through tabs, Apple said.
"The guys would happily storage; imagine what they could do NAS [network attached storage] guys with data transfer rates like this, "said in-stat's McGregor. "But this applies more to business than consumer solutions".
Thunderbolt technology requires an Intel chip controller and a small connector for mobile devices that will be included in the products of technology support. The controller chip provides functionality to support PCI Express and DisplayPort on a single wire protocol switching.
Avid, Blackmagic, LaCie, Western Digital (NYSE: WDC) and Apogee among companies that have both announced Thunderbolt technology based products or plan to support the technology in future devices, Intel said.
Intel is not very experienced with its promise of making Thunderbolt a optical technology. At the Consumer Electronics Show, held in January in Las Vegas, Intel Executive David Perlmutter said that the initial builds will be based on copper.
Copper's good enough for most users ' needs, today, Perlmutter said.
However, the copper cables limited speed and range of data transmission.
"The whole thing light peak with Intel is to enable the optical interconnects, because it gets through lots of limitations in terms of speed and distance imposed by copper" McGregor of in-stat said.
However, connectivity is going to be a problem for some time, warned McGregor.
"Nobody has external PCI Express ports on your PC or any device that connects to the peak of light," said McGregor. "How long it is going to be before your PC and TV and devices support the light peak? It could be years. "
Although Perlmutter, Intel struck a conciliatory note, when it comes to peak light at CES--he said could co-exist with USB 3.0 and USB, display and network protocols on it--Apple took on a more combative.
Thunderbolt technology should be widely adopted as a new standard for high-performance i/o, Apple said when he announced the new line of MacBook Pro.
Intel has not responded to requests for comment by press time.
