The Top 5 reasons to buy a Tablet

As a new tablet announcement after another surfaces in these days, you may be wondering, "what a Tablet already give me that I don't get out of my computer or smartphone?"

At first, I don't see why I would need a Tablet PC. But after observing PCWorld quite a few publishers use them around the Office, gave in and picked up an iPad last summer. Initially I had purchased your device to browse my massive library of digital comic, but soon I found useful for other, more-convenient tasks. I started taking iPad to meetings and use it to perform quick searches of the Web, and became my favorite way to read and respond to e-mail.

With the Motorola Xoom and other tablets powered Honeycomb in the works and with HP in announcing its WebOS-based TouchPad, consumers will have a much larger pool of devices to choose from. Although a Tablet cannot completely replace your PC anytime soon, using one has its advantages. Here are my top five.

Portability

Next to normal computer, tablets by design are relatively lightweight and relatively easy to carry. Many of them may still be too heavy to hold in one hand, but they're great around or on a surface. Reach for a tablet to browse the Web during TV commercials is much easier getting up, going to your desk and start the computer. Also laptops, which is supposed to be mobile, it may take some time to get started, and often receive uncomfortably warm after a short period of use.

As regards the use of a smartphone, you have immediate and easy access, but it's nice to be able to view an entire Web page as opposed to the mobile site or a version rendered strangely on a smartphone's small screen. In addition, there is something to be able to take a Web page more naturally in your hand, as opposed to staring at it on a screen of laptop or monitor. Makes you feel like the future is here.

Productivity

I don't expect anyone to type a proposal using the virtual keyboard of a tablet. However, a tablet in the workplace can be very useful for handling basic tasks like checking email or manage schedules. Here at work, use a stand to hold my iPad next to my monitor so that I can use it as a second screen. Leave the mail app, which allows me to quickly see if you have new messages. For meetings you can jot down notes and download all the relevant documents that might need to refer, in the Tablet PC. In this way you don't have to shuffle through a pile of cards to search for a specific chart or diagram.

Students can also find iPad, especially useful if you need to carry several books on a daily basis. If those books are offered in digital format, you can save some money (and possibly the back) only from their packaging in a tablet can also double as a portable computer.

Entertainment

Tablets are great for entertainment. Since a Tablet is basically just a large screen, is a stellar device for watching movies and TV shows. When you're trying to watch a film epic start, a 3.5 inch screen just isn't enough. With services like Netflix and Hulu Plus, you don't even need to fill the internal memory of the Tablet PC with video files; Instead, you can transmit entire collections of material directly onto your device.

You can also find games to add to your fun. I think I have sunk most hours in angry birds that I have in any other game they currently own. Having touch-based controls on a Tablet requires developers to get creative, bringing a game really unusual.

Adaptability

The games are not the only thing that you can download on your Tablet PC. One of the beautiful things about tablets is that most of them--those that are worth the money you have paid, at least--a sort of marketplace where you can purchase additional applications to give your device a whole new level of functionality. Love to read the news and stay on top of current events? Download some news apps. Love to tweet and spend all day on Facebook? Grab some applications of social networking to stay in touch with friends.

Although it is true that you can customize your computer as well, the installation of applications on a Tablet is a process much cleaner and simpler. You don't have to deal with product keys or registration keys, and most applications, download and install in a few seconds. Tablets are also a great tool for road warriors who need features missing from their phone, but they don't want the size and weight of a laptop or netbook to slow them.

Battery life

One of the reasons that I prefer carrying around a Tablet instead of a laptop's battery life than you get from a tablet. My laptop can go just about 2.5 hours before I have to plug it in, whereas I can get almost a full day of use of a Galaxy Samsung or an iPad. Even my HTC droid incredible smartphone needs to be plugged in at least two times per day, more if I've been browsing the Web with it. Having to carry a charger, as well as a laptop (not to mention trying to find a power outlet available) is to be inconvenient.
