Bits: Instagram pushes real-time photos for developers

Instagram Instagram showcases photographs taken around the United States in real-time to create a demo application.
Instagram, the photo sharing service that currently exists only as a downloadable application for the Apple iPhone, is about to push a little more of his photos in other corners of the Internet.

Thursday, the company announced a new real-time ® A.p.i.., or application programming interface, which hopefully will allow developers to create new types of applications or Web services using Instagram as a platform for the distribution of these images.

The new ® A.p.i.. will allow developers to access the photos taken at Instagram, once they are uploaded by users of Instagram. Developers can then break down these images through a few different criteria, including the monitoring images taken by a specific person or photos that are marked with tags, similar to how you use hashtags on Twitter. Developers will also be able to filter images based on the location of the photo, or even specify images within a certain distance of a location on a map.

Kevin Systrom, founder of Instagram, said that to show the new ® A.p.i.., his team created a sample application that highlights 20 locations from around the United States. Photos of update whenever a new image is loaded Instagram tagged with one of 20 locations in app demo.

Instagram is continuing to grow at a rapid pace. The company has reached two million users earlier this month, only four and a half months after its debut.

Earlier this month, Instagram announced that it had secured $ 7 million round of financing led by venture Capital firm, Benchmark. Mr. Systrom said at the time that he planned to use the money to increase its team of employees and building Instagram applications for other platforms.

Instagram soon should produce a mobile application that will be available for the Google Android platform and a new website that will showcase photos Instagram.
